Our AURORIA medical device aims to improve the healthcare experience of pediatric patients through active virtual reality. Immersion in a magical world helps reduce anxiety in children and adolescents before treatment/surgery, but also, and more importantly, helps reduce the pain felt during procedures.

AURORIA is primarily intended for pediatric patients aged 5 and older. However, virtual reality and immersive therapeutic games are suitable for a much wider audience, as our device has been tested on adolescents and young adults.

Unlike other virtual reality solutions, AURORIA uses active virtual reality. This means that the patient-player is focused on the game. Numerous scientific studies have shown that the pain felt during a painful procedure is lessened when the brain’s attention is diverted to distractions (in this case, the virtual reality video game). Anxiety is managed by removing the child from the medical environment (operating room, sight of syringes and bandages, etc.).

Use & installation

The device is quick and easy to set up. When you receive the kit, a member of our team will assist you and show you how the equipment works. We will then provide your teams with an explanatory video and a summary document.

Yes, it’s very intuitive for the patient. Once the healthcare staff has configured the device, all they have to do is put the headset on the patient’s head and give them the game controller. The patient is instantly immersed in the world of AURORIA, where instructions are given directly through the headset so they know what their missions are. To complete their missions, they simply need to move their head slightly and press the trigger on the controller.

A support phase is planned upon receipt of the AURORIA kit in order to train healthcare staff. Support materials are also available : a step-by-step video and a brochure summarizing the implementation steps.

Safety & efficiency

Of course, AURORIA is a Class I certified medical device. This certification guarantees safety of use for both caregivers and patients.

In addition, the AURORIA universe has been designed to avoid a phenomenon called “motion sickness” or “kinetosis,” which causes some virtual reality users to feel ill. Our user tests have validated this data.

Most patients can use AURORIA. However, always seek medical advice for patients with psychological or cognitive disorders or who have photosensitive epilepsy. Similarly, if the patient has lesions on the area above the neck, seek medical advice.

For children who wear glasses, the helmet can be used provided that the frames are not too large.

Several studies have proven the effectiveness of AURORIA. The studies we have conducted in partnership with healthcare institutions, as well as all the studies and research conducted since 2011 and initiated by Hoffman.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal hygiene, we recommend cleaning all equipment (headset, controller, and tablet) before and after each use.

For cleaning, you can use our UV disinfection stations or the cleaning equipment you normally use (disinfectant wipes, etc.).

We also recommend using caps to place on patients’ heads before putting on the virtual reality headset.

In case of technical problems, you can contact us Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our customer service team will guide you in resolving your issue. The phone number will be provided to you upon delivery of the equipment.

Our development teams frequently make technical improvements to AURORIA. These improvements are available in the form of regular updates.

No action is required on your part ; updates are performed automatically.

  • AURORIA kit rental : the equipment is guaranteed for the entire duration of the rental. In the event of a technical problem that cannot be resolved remotely, we will replace the equipment.
  • AURORIA kit purchased : the equipment is guaranteed for 2 years.
